Karen passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, at her home in Norfolk.

Karen Ellen Jackson was born September 22, 1949, in Walhalla, North Dakota, to Hans and Margaret (Richotte) Hanson. She graduated from Walhalla High School in 1967 and went on to pursue her passion for caring for others by becoming a registered nurse after graduating from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1970.

On May 8, 1970, Karen married the love of her life, Daniel Jackson, at the Episcopal Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Together, they built a life centered on family, dedication, and love.

Karen had a long and meaningful nursing career, spending many years caring for others. She especially cherished her ten years as a surgical nurse at Faith Regional Health Services, where her compassion and skill touched countless lives.

Outside of her career, Karen found her greatest joy in her family. She loved watching her grandchildren grow, celebrating their milestones, and creating lasting memories together. Summers spent vacationing in Okoboji were especially dear to her heart. Karen also enjoyed quiet moments reading mystery novels and could often be found supporting her husband’s well-known garage sale adventures and antiquing, always ready to tag along and enjoy the hunt.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dan; children, Randy and Stacey (Michael) Pojar; five grandchildren, Jordan Jackson, Bryce Jackson, Jackson Costello, Tyler Lagunes, and Brooke Hansen; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and brother, Don (Sandy) Gunderson.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky; and siblings, Arvid, Dolly, Gunder, Gloria, and Diane.

Karen will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
