Katherine Anna Bussey was born on March 14, 1930, to Hubert and Josephine (McKeever) Grosserode. She was the second child of seven siblings. Kathy attended Dry Hollow School in rural Battle Creek until the eighth grade. She finished her schooling in Battle Creek and graduated in 1947.
After moving to Norfolk, Kathy worked as a medical assistant and nurse’s aide at the Campbell Clinic in Norfolk for Dr. Barry, Dr. Pollock, and Dr. Surber from 1948 until 1955.
Kathy married Fred “Chic” Bussey on January 28, 1955. Four children were born of this marriage, Jeff, Ann, Pat, and Lisa. The family lived in Norfolk until 1970, when they moved to Battle Creek. Kathy was known for the many wonderful family meals she made, including her sour cream raisin pie and famous chocolate cake with homemade frosting.
Kathy was a stay-at-home mother and wife. She and Chic were pretty much inseparable and loved each other immensely. They attended and enjoyed many card clubs as well as the Norfolk Saddle Club. They attended many parades and trail rides with their horses. They traveled on several bus tours with groups of friends they made throughout the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Shorty) Barnes of Battle Creek; son, Pat (Pam) Bussey of Battle Creek; daughter-in-law, Dawn (Lonnie) Bussey-Smith; son-in-law, Art Alvarado of Carpenter, Wyoming; son, Steve (Connie) Kobe of Owosso, Michigan; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Harvey, Lucille Staskiewicz, and Jane Moppin.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Chic in 2013; son, Jeff in 2018; daughter, Lisa in 2020; and many siblings and friends.
She will be missed more than words can say.
