When returning home, he bought his father’s excavating business, digging basements and hauling sand and gravel. He ran Norfolk Excavating Company from 1969 to 2014 retiring due to health issues.
On March 12, 1978, Leland married his best friend and life partner Lynda Truman in Wisner, NE. They moved onto their home south of Norfolk and raised their two daughters Angela and Elisha. In 2000, Leland took over management of Andy’s Lake.
Leland was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family was his pride and joy and would remind them weekly if not daily. He was very proud of the closeness he had with each one and never left a conversation without an I love you or a hug if we were together. You never had to doubt that he loved and cared for you.
Leland truly enjoyed running his heavy equipment, He would work 12-to-14-hour days without a complaint. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, taking many out of state trips with friends, and vacations with his family. Leland loved animals of any kind. After retiring, he enjoyed his old westerns shows on TV in his recliner and friends.
Leland always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He never forgot a name or an important date in his loved one’s life. He served his country proudly and was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Leland will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. No regrets, he knew we loved him as much as he loved us, and we will join him when our journey is over.
