Lelice Davis Newcomb, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, after a lifetime spent loving and cheering louder than anyone in the stands.

She was born December 12, 1942, in Terre Haute, IN to Richard Paul and Nomia Edith (Osmond) Davis and raised in Pensacola, Florida. Lelice married Wendell Newcomb, her high-school sweetheart and lifelong partner, on February 8, 1964, at the St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Pensacola, Florida. A year later they moved to Norfolk, where they planted roots that grew deep and strong for more than sixty years.

For years the bleachers and arena rails knew her voice best on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons as she cheered on her children, Romney, Ken, and Thom, through football games, wrestling matches, and horseback rides. When her own kids outgrew the spotlight, Grandma never left the stands. She simply turned that same fierce pride toward her grandchildren, Evan, Alysa, and Alanna, showing up for every event with the same unwavering love and thunderous support.

At home and at the office she was Wendell’s rock, the quiet strength behind every success and the gentle hand that kept their family close through every season. The loss of their beloved daughter Romney in 1998 broke her heart but never her spirit. Lelice simply loved harder, held tighter, and kept showing up for the ones who remained.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Wendell Newcomb; her sons, Ken Newcomb and Thom Newcomb; her cherished grandchildren, Evan, Alysa, and Alanna; her six great-grandchildren; and friends who were family in every way that mattered.

Lelice was preceded in death by her daughter, Romney Newcomb (1998); and her parents.

She has taken her place in the best seat in the house now—watching over every game, every ride, every moment—still cheering, still loving, still Mom and Grandma.
