Funeral services for Linda K. Petersen, age 74, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Reverend Michael Moreno will officiate, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue, in Norfolk.
Linda died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Linda was born October 20, 1949, in Tilden to Willsey Orvel and Ruth Elaine (Spencer) Elsberry and grew up in Brunswick, Nebraska. She graduated from Norfolk High School in 1967 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State College in Education. She went on to get her master's degree, summa cum laude, at Wayne State College and continued to take courses throughout the years to further her education.
She taught for 29 years at Bel-Air Elementary School in Norfolk. Linda taught 1st grade for many years before trying out the rest of the grades and settling on kindergarten for the rest of her career. After retiring from Norfolk Public Schools, she went on to work for Home for Funerals in Norfolk, Nebraska for 12 years.
On September 13, 1969, she married Lloyd “Rusty” Leroy Petersen, Jr. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The couple was blessed with two children, Michelle Lynne and Mark Lloyd.
Linda was blessed with musical talent. She had a beautiful singing voice as well as a talent for playing the piano. She loved to play hymns and sing with her brother and sisters. She was previously involved with singing in church choirs and also directed a youth church choir for a short time. Linda picked up the hobby of wood carving and like her husband, was also a member of Northeast Nebraska Woodcarvers. She was known to be an excellent cook.
Linda was devoted to family and her faith in God. She was dedicated to both her entire life and was a caregiver and a nurturer.
She is survived by her children, Michelle (Gregory) Reeson and Mark (Cyndy) Petersen; grandchildren, Zane, Zachary, and Natalie Reeson; sisters, Betty (John) Peterson, Brenda Ealey, and Jolene Smith; brother, Bruce (Krystal) Elsberry; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister-in-law, Peggy Sue; infant granddaughter, Kaleena Willow Trine; her grandparents; several aunts and uncles; her brother-in-law; Dennis Smith; and husband, Rusty.
Memorials may be directed to the Norfolk Public School Foundation or their local animal shelter.
