Lois Reed Obituary

Funeral services for Lois M. Reed, age 91, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. December 11, 2023, at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk. Reverend Gordon Braun will officiate, with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. The funeral will be livestreamed on the funeral home's website.

Visitation will be December 10, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the chapel.

Lois died Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Lois Mae Reed, daughter of Melvin and Elsa (Rasmussen) Russell was born July 23, 1932 at Wayne, Nebraska. She attended Wayne High School. She was married to George Dean Reed on October 18, 1953 at Wayne, Nebraska. Four children were born to them: Debbie Benish, Sheryl Jackson, Diane Reed, and Mary Griffith.

Lois worked for the Gas Company in Wayne right after high school. She lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for her first four years of marriage. She and George moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where she worked as a bookkeeper for Herberger’s and then Pic N Save. Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of Newcomers and helped with Girl Scouts when she first moved to Norfolk. She was involved in her children’s AquaJets Swim Team, all of their school activities, and loved her Bridge Clubs, especially for the people and socializing.

Lois was a wonderful mother who was always there when her children needed her. She was a lady of strong moral values, who lived by The Golden Rule, and instilled this in her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois was a loving, caring, soft-hearted, giving, dear lady. She was a people person, who never knew a stranger. All those who knew Lois, knew she loved the color pink. She was very talented and gifted at many things. Lois had a love of music and served as Wayne High School’s Drum Majorette throughout high school, where she played the flute, violin and cello. She loved playing her organ and piano. She created many beautiful ceramic pieces and loved gardening and nurturing her indoor and outdoor plants and flowers. Lois was an animal lover and loved her pets dearly. She was of strong character and the matriarch of her family. She was always supportive and devoted to family. Her world revolved around her love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

She died November 30, 2023 at Faith Regional Health Services at the age of 91.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Benish of LaVista, Diane Reed of Omaha, and Mary Griffith of Norfolk; one grandson, Ryan (Beth) Benish of Denver, CO; granddaughter-in-law, Brea Griffith of Parker, SD; and two great-grandchildren, Franklin Jax Griffith and Waylon Shane Griffith of Parker, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, George; daughter, Sheryl Jackson; son-in-law, Frank D. Griffith; grandson, Frank R. Griffith; granddaughter, Sarah Jo Griffith; and brother, Lloyd Russell.
