Lorene Herley Obituary

Funeral services for Lorene C. Herley, age 92, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Reverend Paul Hirsch will officiate, with interment in the church cemetery. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. 

The Service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.

Lorene passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska.

Lorene Clara Herley was born April 20, 1934, in Pierce, Nebraska to Traugott and Linda (Krueger) Krueger. She was baptized on May 27, 1934, and confirmed on December 12, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster, Nebraska. Lorene attended grade school in rural Pierce County. She completed high school correspondence courses from Chicago. Lorene took high school by mail after the eighth grade, so she could help on the family farm.

She came to Norfolk and got a job at Hested’s and then got a job at Dudley Laundry where she met Kenneth Herley who would later become her husband. They were married on November 6, 1955, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster. The couple was married for 69 years before Kenneth passed away in 2025.

Lorene worked at Gillette Dairy and cleaned the business, and also did cleaning for some other people in their houses.

She enjoyed going to auctions and rummages. Lorene baked angel food cakes for her grandkids for their birthdays. She loved gardening and making rhubarb jam.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie (Jeff) Suckstorf and Janie Giambruno; grandchildren, Joshua, Joseph, and Jacob (Morgann) Suckstorf; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Blake, Myles, Maci, Camilla, Gracelynn, Sawyer, and Abi; sisters, Carolyn Signor and Elaine Stiegert; and many nieces and nephews.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Margaret McCutchen; brothers-in-law, Charles McCutchen and Dave Signor; brother, Elmer Krueger; and son-in-law, Jim Giambruno.
