Funeral services for Lyle R. Hofmann, age 80, of Battle Creek, Nebraska will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Reverend Lee Weander will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by Nebraska Army National Guard Honor Guard and American Legion Post 75.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.
Steffen Mortuary of Battle Creek is in charge of arrangements.
He passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Faith Health in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Lyle Ray Hofmann was born April 6, 1946, to Raymond and LaVern (Heckman) Hofmann. He graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1964. On July 23, 1966, Lyle married Betty Tegeler at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Nebraska.
Lyle started out farming before he moved on to construction. He helped build multiple houses in Battle Creek. After his construction career, Lyle worked for the REA from January of 1980 until he retired in June of 2005.
He didn’t stay retired long, starting his favorite “job” helping his grandson, Zach, with his mowing business.
Lyle served as a Battle Creek volunteer fireman for 25 years.
He was an avid golfer. His favorite thing was to hang out with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Dennis (Tonja) Hofmann of Battle Creek and Debbie Westerman (fiancé Tim Williams); grandchildren, Zach Westerman (fiancée Bailey Carpenter) and Abby (Kobe) Lade; great-grandchildren, Archie, Baker, and Goldie; brother, Larry (Gloria) Hofmann of Norfolk; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy (Ronnie) Smith of Battle Creek; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister.
