Margaret M. “Maggie” Arter, age 86, of Norfolk, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025 at The Meadows in Norfolk. She was born April 2, 1939 to Bernard and Bertha (Hunke) Batenhorst at the family home in West Point, Nebraska. Maggie was the seventh of eight children.
She married Larry Arter in August of 1955 in West Point. The couple was blessed with four children: Cindy, Mike, Deb, and Martin.
Maggie worked at Prengers for years and was a bookkeeper at Four Quarters Feedlot for many years as well. She finished her worklife at Dale Electronics and retired at the age of 62.
She bowled for years, played softball, and was always an avid reader. Maggie never had a bad word to say about anyone and had a kind and gentle heart.
Maggie was preceded in death by her husband Larry, son Mike, parents Bernard “Ben” and Bertha, six siblings Maryann, Wilma, Gert, Ed, Bruno and Chris.
She is survived by her children Cindy, Deb and Martin, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and sister Evelyn.
Her remaining family want to thank The Meadows (Maggie’s home since 2015) and the amazing, compassionate, and caring members of Faith Regional Hospice.
