Marjorie passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at The Meadows in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Marjorie Jane Raasch was born on June 6, 1922, in Norfolk, Nebraska, Marjorie was the daughter of Adolph and Laverne (Scheibe) Raasch. She grew up on the family farm north of Norfolk and attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and Norfolk High School. After graduating, she took the civil service exam. Just months later, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, she received a letter offering her a position in Washington, D.C. Though her mother worried about her moving so far away, Marjorie, with a sense of duty and patriotism, replied, "My country needs me."

Thus began an extraordinary 50-year career filled with adventure and service. In 1941, she boarded a train to Washington, D.C. and became a junior clerk typist in the Office of the Secretary of War. Her dedication and skill earned her promotions over the next decade, with positions in Headquarters, Army Air Force and Air Materiel Command.

In the 1950’s, Marjorie accepted an overseas assignment with the Office of the Air Attache in Ankara, Turkey. During her years there, she was promoted and transferred to the United States Air Force (USAF) Group for Aid to Turkey. Her work took her across the globe, and she traveled extensively through Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy - places that many today can only dream of visiting.

She later returned to Washington, D.C., where she spent four years working in the Office of the Chief of Staff, USAF, serving as executive secretary to numerous Air Force General Officers. Her career then led her to Vienna, Austria, where she worked as an Air Attache at the American Embassy. With its rich history, museums, and opera, Vienna became one of her favorite cities.

Her love of travel and dedication to service next brought her to the American Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands. In 1965, she returned to the U.S. to accept an executive secretary position at the Pentagon, where she remained until her retirement in 1991.

Marjorie devoted nearly half a century to the United States Air Force, serving with unwavering dedication and pride. Even in retirement, she continued to explore the world and cherish new adventures until returning to her hometown of Norfolk in 2021.

A passionate genealogist, Marjorie spent decades researching her family's history, corresponding with genealogy centers worldwide to preserve and share her family's heritage. She was also an avid reader, always eager to recommend a book from her extensive library.

Marjorie is survived by sister-in-law Lynnette Raasch, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish her adventurous spirit, wisdom, and warmth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald and David; and sisters, Jean Albers and Norma Dreyer.

Marjorie's legacy of service, curiosity, and love of family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A special thank you to Ron and Sherry Kraemer for taking Marjorie to church so she could celebrate her faith.
