Funeral Services for Marvin L. McRae age 89, of Norfolk, will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue. Pastor Mark Rose will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the chapel. Interment will be in Alberry Cemetery. Military honors conducted by the Air Force Honor Guard, American Legion Post 16, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
He passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at CHI Health Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
Marvin was born August 28, 1935 in Earle, Arkansas to Otis and Esther (Knapp) McRae. Marvin grew up in Luxora, Arkansas where he dug graves for work and lived in a shotgun house as a young adult. He served in the Air Force.
On December 12, 1953, Marvin married Mary Lou Garza in Amarillo, TX. They lived in Amarillo prior to moving to Memphis, TN. In the 1960’s, they moved to Hershey and later North Platte. In 1985, they moved to Norfolk where Marvin was employed as a local plumber.
He enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, and being outdoors. Marvin also loved cats, bowling and baseball.
Marvin is survived by his children Marvin (Petra) McRae of Norfolk, Marty (Frances) McRae of Dora, AL, and Kendra (Jason) Feddern of Norfolk, nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Otis, mother Esther who was a minister, an infant sister, wife Mary, and infant daughter Shari Ann.
