Mass of Christian Burial for Merced Perez, age 86, of Madison, Nebraska will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison. Reverend Gregory Carl will be celebrant, with burial in St. Leonard’s Catholic Cemetery in Madison.
Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service.
Resseguie Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.
Merced died Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at his residence.
Merced Perez, son of Merced Perez Gonzales and Maria Capetillo, was born June 22, 1938, in Mexico. On June 1, 1959, he married Ramona Leal Gonzales. They had nine children. In 1967, Merced moved permanently to the United States, where he served in the military.
Merced was very good with his hands. He was a broom-maker by trade, and a talented wood carver. His love of fishing led him to make fishing nets, which he even sold to local fishermen. He also worked in agriculture before retiring. Merced loved to spend his time gardening and traveling.
He is survived by his children, Lidia Perez, Leticia Perez, Alberto Rafael Perez, Jose Luis Perez, Mauro Javier Perez, Jose Merced Perez, Rosa Maria Perez, Oscar Roberto Perez, and Kenny M. Perez; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Merced was preceded in death by his parents, Merced and Maria; his wife, Ramona; 17 siblings; and one grandchild.
