Michael John Sullivan was born March 8, 1945. He passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024, at Faith Regional Health Services. He was welcomed to the world by John (Jack) and Dorothy (Grabenkamp) Sullivan who lived on a farm north of Meadow Grove. Mike attended country school and Meadow Grove High School. After high school he attended Norfolk Junior College and Peru State College.
In 1967 Mike was drafted and served in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in 1969. In 1969, his daughter Jackie was born. He worked a variety of construction jobs until he returned to college at Wayne State. In 1977 he married Jean Dederman and was blessed with a stepdaughter, Sara.
After he earned his degree in Community Counseling, he worked for the Department of Education Vocational Rehabilitation. During his tenure he was twice honored as Employee of the Year, and Governor Kay Orr inducted him into the Nebraska Navy. After his retirement he worked part-time at Boardman's Furniture & Pawn. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
At the age of 10, when Mike first heard rock and roll music on the radio, he found his passion in life: music. He had an extensive collection of 45 records, vinyl records, cassette tapes, and CDs. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of musicians, music labels, and song origins and loved to share this knowledge with anyone who would listen and would encourage you to keep on rockin'.
He is survived by his partner, Jean Dederman; stepdaughter, Sara Dederman Brayshaw, and her children, Aiden and Dylan; his cousins, Becky Peterson, John Sullivan, Shiela Sullivan; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Jackie Sullivan.
Per his wishes, memorial donations in Mike's name should be made to Habitat for Humanity P.O. Box 1251, Norfolk, Nebraska.
