Memorial services for Mona Jean Roberts, age 100, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk. Reverend Gordon Braun will officiate.
Private family interment will be in Eastview Cemetery in Allen, Nebraska at a later date.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Mona Jean died Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk.
Mona Jean “Mike” (Bagley) Roberts was born to Ernest E. and Bessie (Christopherson) Bagley on March 16, 1926, on a farm near Allen, Nebraska. She attended school at Wakefield and Allen, graduating from Allen Consolidated High School in 1944.
Mona Jean was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Allen and was a member there until she moved to Norfolk and joined Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in 1993. She grew up in a family of faith and love of God.
During her junior and senior years of high school, Mona Jean was Springbank Township librarian and Sunday School superintendent. She studied to be a teacher and was assigned to teach at Turtle Hill School. Unfortunately, that lasted one day due to appendicitis and complications. Later she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, den mother for Cub Scouts, Sunday School teacher, a long-time 4-H member and then leader. She was the town librarian again after she was married. Mona Jean worked in food service at Allen Consolidated Schools for 25 years, 17 years as the Food Service Manager.
She married Emmett Francis “Mutt” Roberts on December 14, 1944, at First Lutheran Church in Allen. He died on December 24, 1990, they were blessed with three children Linda Sue, Jerry Francis, and JoAnne Kay.
Mona Jean moved to Norfolk in 1993. She volunteered at Jefferson Elementary School and was a member of Agape Circle at Christ the Servant. She loved to cook, bake, and entertain. She was a big fan of the Nebraska Women’s Volleyball team.
She loved her family and is survived by her three children, Linda Sue (Dennis) Miller, Jerry Roberts, and JoAnne (Steve Morton); nine grandchildren, Melinda Irizarry, Monica (Eric) Carter, Chad (Jessica) Roberts, Troy (Nikki) Roberts, Jesse (Lacey) Roberts, Elizabeth (Ian) Wollmann, Chris Morton, Michael Morton, and Matthew Morton; and three great-grandchildren.
Mona Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; brother, Ervin Bagley; daughter-in-law, Teri Roberts; and one great-grandson.
Private interment will be in Eastview Cemetery in Allen, Nebraska at a later date.
