Nathan Boyle

A Memorial Mass for Nathan P. Boyle, age 29, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Patrick McLaughlin will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be at O’Neill Cemetery in O’Neill.

Visitation will be Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service.

Nathan Patrick Boyle was born November 16, 1996, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Rick and Mary (Schaaf) Boyle.

He passed away July 28, 2026, at home with family by his side after an ongoing battle with complications from a bone marrow transplant. 

Nathan was baptized and confirmed at Saint Mary’s Church in Norfolk. He attended Norfolk Catholic Schools from preschool until his graduation in 2015. While in high school, Nathan participated in football, basketball, and track. Nathan earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Northeast Community College in 2018 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources from the University of Nebraska in 2021. He was a member of Norfolk Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was a proud godfather to Jackson, Walker, and Amos.

Nathan loved all things Nebraska. He often could be found watching, reading about, or discussing whatever sport was in season. He enjoyed camping, boating, and hunting with his family and friends. He was an expert at finding new hunting ground that could be explored with his labs Spud and Mose.

Although Nathan’s life was filled with many health challenges, he never let his circumstances define him. His philosophy was to thank God he was alive and to do what he was capable of each day.

Nathan’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the countless healthcare workers who have taken care of him over the years. Their expertise, dedication, and compassion will always be remembered.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Rick and Mary; sisters, Jessica (Jake) Romshek of David City and Kristen (Wilson) Long of Omaha; his beloved nieces and nephews, Jackson, Cameron, Kennedy, Sydney, Walker, and Baby Romshek; grandmother, Bette Boyle of O’Neill; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Nathan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry and JoAnn Schaaf and Ed Boyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Norfolk Catholic Athletic Department to honor Nathan’s love for sports or Sammy’s Superheroes Foundation in Columbus that supports childhood cancer research.
