Patricia Hughes Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia A. Hughes, 96, of Lincoln, formerly of Norfolk, will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Vincent Germace will be the celebrant. 

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, with a 12:30 p.m. Rosary at the church. 

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Norfolk with luncheon to follow at the Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue. 

Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

She passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the CountryHouse Residence in Lincoln, NE. 

Patricia Ann was born October 23, 1928, to Joseph Glenn and Mary (Donigan) Glenn on a farm west of Grand Island, NE. In 1936, the family moved to a farm near Smithfield, NE.

Patricia lived on her parents’ farm near Smithfield, NE until she graduated from high school in 1946. After graduating, she moved to Grand Island, NE and worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone for three and a half years. 

On June 6, 1949, Patricia married Dale Hughes from Cozad, NE and they lived in Grand Island until 1963, when Dale took a job with Affiliated Foods in Norfolk, NE. Eight children were born to Patricia and Dale in Grand Island, and two more were born while living in Norfolk.

Patricia and Dale moved to Smith Center, KS in 1976 and purchased a grocery store. Dale passed away in 1985. Patricia moved to Lincoln, NE, in 1988. She spent 10 years in Fairbury, NE before returning to Lincoln in 2003.

Patricia has been an active member of the Catholic Church her whole life. While in Grand Island, she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. In Norfolk, she belonged to St. Mary’s, and in Lincoln she attended both Cathedral and St. Joseph parishes.

She is preceded in death by her husband; sons, Phillip and Paul Hughes; great-granddaughter, Saige Choquette; sisters, Mary George, Elizabeth Small, and Catherine Hughes; and brothers, James, Joe, and John Glenn. 

Patricia is survived by eight children, Joseph Hughes of Lincoln, NE, Stephen (Deb) Hughes of Lincoln, NE, Barbara (Fred) Pasmore of Allen, TX, Connie (Kevin) Choquette of Upland, NE, Al Hughes of Dallas, TX, Mark Hughes of Lincoln, NE, Jeff (Linda) Hughes of Hutto, TX, and Patty (Steve) Wagner of Mansfield, TX., daughter-in-law, Becky Hughes of Norfolk; nineteen grandchildren: Shane Hughes, Aaron (Jesse) Hughes, Paul Ryan (Brooke) Hughes, Adam James Hughes, Chantelle (Ron) Stachura, Yanna Pasmore, Jon Terre Pasmore, Hunter Pasmore, Kelsey (Ashley) Wirth, Adrianna (Brian) Choquette-Hoffart, Spencer (Erika) Choquette, Brooke (Alex) Mwangi, Tyler Hughes, Mya Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes, Katrina (Kevin) Gonzalez, Madison Wagner, Lacie Wagner, and Jeremy Ryan Pasmore; twenty-one great-grandchildren: Cameron Hughes, Parker Hughes, Jackson Hughes, Mila Hughes, Jeremy (Julie) Stachura, Sarah (Josh) Schwarz, Ben (Julia) Stachura, Elaina (Jonathan) Schwarz, Shane Stachura, Alexia Wirth, Kyle Wirth, Otis Hoffart, Dottie Hoffart, Grayson Choquette, Willis Choquette, Graham Choquette, Judah Choquette, Benedict Mwangi, Tyler Pasmore, James Pasmore, and Jesse Pasmore; eight great-great-grandchildren: Justin, Dylan, Jesse, Danny, Henry, Ellie Schwarz, Evelyn Stachura, and Jackson Pasmore; sister, Helen Donigan of Spokane, WA, sister-in-law, Darlene Glenn of Washtucna, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
