Ray passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Raymond Walter Mielke was born January 30, 1937, in Marion, North Dakota to Walter and Louise (Schernback) Mielke.  Ray attended Marion Public High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Army.

In 1960, Ray married Joyce Wohl. The couple was blessed with five beautiful children.

In his younger years, Raymond was a bus driver and that’s how the family came to live in Norfolk. He operated his own mechanic shop, gas station, and used car lot in Norfolk until the early 1990’s. Then, he moved to Lincoln to become a United States Postal Contractor and delivered mail.

Raymond retired at 76 years young. He loved playing any type of card games. Ray enjoyed fishing and traveling. He appreciated time with his family, was never without a piece of chocolate, and always had plenty to share along with a witty joke!

Ray is survived by his children, Kelly (Trista) Mielke of Norfolk, Jan (Marty) Pflueger of Norfolk, Patty Simpson of Reuthven, IA, Jerry (Michelle) Mielke of Laurens, IA, Joyce Carr of Seward, and Gene (Stacie) Reuter of Norfolk; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; siblings, Chuck Mielke of Fargo, ND, Charlotte (Gary) Beyer of Arizona, and Jim (Sandie) Mielke of Aberdeen, SD; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Bruhschwein; and brother, Eddie Mielke.
