Our dad, Richard "Rick" Alan Coates, passed away on July 16, 2026, in Stanton, Nebraska, at the age of 62. He was born on April 29, 1964, to Marvin and Janice (Genrich) Coates in Beatrice, Nebraska. His passing came far too soon and leaves an immeasurable void in our lives. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the love he gave us and the memories we are fortunate to share.
Dad found his greatest peace on the quiet dirt roads of the open Nebraska countryside. Fishing and hunting were his lifelong pastimes. He had a gift for finding hidden beauty in ordinary things like rocks on the side of the road. The lessons he taught us, the adventures we experienced together, and the quiet appreciation he had for the outdoors will remain with us always.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Janice Coates. He is survived by his children, James and Mara; his brother, William. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The family will gather at a later date to scatter Rick’s ashes in a place that reflects the peace and beauty of nature he loved so much, honoring his memory in a setting that feels fitting for the life he lived.
Dad, every dirt road we travel, every interesting rock we find, and every quiet morning spent outdoors will remind us of you. We love you, and we will carry you with us always.
