He passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk.
Bob was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on November 3, 1957, to Kathryn Rose (Weich) and Vernon Lee Turley. Bob graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1976. At his graduation, Johnny Carson spoke and dubbed him "Maharishi" (because of his beautiful long hair and beard). He studied civil engineering at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and attended community college in Norfolk.
Bob was employed at Dale Electronics in maintenance, Kinning and Reil as a plumber’s assistant, 3M as a maintenance supervisor and in maintenance at Faith Regional Services. He was a gifted tradesman and did remodeling on the family home in Norfolk.
Bob was united in marriage with Kathy Mori on May 15, 1982. They later divorced.
Bob was known for his sense of humor and said when he was younger, he considered himself sort of a "social butterfly." Artifact hunting was a hobby to Bob. He collected many small fossils, arrowheads, and other small objects. Bob enjoyed fishing and canoeing with family and friends. He loved to travel and did so to Yellowstone, the Tetons, Estes and Glacier National Parks, floating down the Arkansas River in Colorado, among many other destinations. He played in many shuffleboard and bowling leagues with his friends. He also loved to watch sports, especially Husker games and asked for red duct tape to change a number on a favorite Nebraska jersey when someone left the program. He was emotional about "his Huskers."
Bob was a kind and devoted son, father, brother and friend. Most important to Bob was the love of his son, Matthew.
In 2012, Bob had a drastic change in his life, when he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury at work from falling off a ladder. This caused him to be disabled and to reside at Saint Joseph's Rehabilitation Facility in Norfolk.
He is survived by his son, Matthew Turley; his sisters, Laura Schram (John) and Virginia Turley-Spenner (Mike Spenner); and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
