Mass of Christian Burial for Rona Eileen Rotherham, age 93, Norfolk, Nebraska formerly of Madison, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
The mass will be livestreamed at the funeral home's website.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. rosary.
Resseguie Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.
Eileen died on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, at the Norfolk Veterans' Home.
Rona Eileen Rotherham, daughter of Royal A. and Edna (Davis) Nahrstedt was born April 10, 1930, in Norfolk, Nebraska. She attended rural school and graduated from Madison High School in 1947.
On April 15, 1948, she married Maurice Rotherham at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison, Nebraska. The couple made their lifelong home in Madison and celebrated seventy years together before Maurice passed away in 2018.
Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She hosted numerous family gatherings and will be remembered as a fantastic cook. She was a member of St. Leonard's Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Madison Firemen's Auxiliary. Eileen loved playing cards with friends and family, spending weekends in Lincoln with her daughters, and taking road trips to casinos.
Survivors include her eight children, Terry and Marsha Rotherham of Oregon, WI, Richard and Mary Rotherham of Lincoln, Bob and Carol Rotherham of Norfolk, Sue and Jeff Trausch of Lincoln, Kitt Leftrich of Norfolk, Rock and Jackie Rotherham of Columbus, Krystal and Dick Rung of Lincoln, and Tanya and Scott Scheffler of Madison. She was loved by twenty-three grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two stepsisters, Fern Salmen of Madison and Faye Grey of Columbus; her brother-in-law, Jerry McCallum of Norfolk; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her parents; a great-granddaughter, Elin Trausch; her infant brother, Donald; her sisters, Margaret Dicke and Jan McCallum; her brother-in-law, Dave Dicke; and her niece, Sally Dicke.
