Ruth Eleanor Preston, age 78 of Randolph, died Saturday November 23, 2019 at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel. She was born August 31, 1941 at Hartington, Nebraska the daughter of Louis and Thelma (Hash) Martensen. She attended grade school at Hartington public schools, graduated Coleridge High School in 1959 and earned her teaching certificate from Wayne State College.
Ruth taught 5th grade at Omaha elementary school for 2 years.
On June 15, 1963 Ruth married Douglas Preston at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. The couple made their home farming near Randolph with her husband until 2008 when they retired from farming. Her hobbies include bird watching, word puzzles, enjoyed reading books, traveling and keeping up with her friends through correspondence.
Ruth was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Belden, Union Presbyterian Women, Randolph Federated Woman's Club, P.E.O. sisterhood of Randolph, Wareham card club and several card clubs where Ruth was active in leadership and held offices in many of these organizations.
She is survived by her husband Doug Preston of Randolph; 3 children Anne and Jeff Guynn of Oakhurst, CA; Mark Preston of Omaha; Caryl Preston of Homestead, FL; 2 grandchildren Natalie and Nicolas Guynn of Oakhurst, CA; 1 Great Granddaughter Ellie Guynn-Smith of Oakhurst, CA; 1 brother Don and Joyce Martensen; 1 sister Lori Jo and Brian Zigterman of North Richland Hills, TX.
Preceding her in death include her parents, 2 sisters Linda Ternus and Diane Frerichs.
Memorial gifts made out in memory of Ruth and made to the Lied Randolph Public Library's Friends of the Library Fund for new children's books.
