Memorial services for Sharon L. Emrich, age 88, of Norfolk, Nebraska, will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2420 W. Omaha Avenue in Norfolk. Pastor Caleb Wehling will officiate.
The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.
Visitation with family will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue, in Norfolk.
Home for Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.
Sharon passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at The Meadows in Norfolk.
Sharon Lee Emrich was born on September 27, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa to Sadie (DeJager) and Irvin Cleeson Hooks. She graduated from Leeds High School, Sioux City, Iowa in 1955 and attended Nebraska State Teachers College, Wayne, earning her bachelor’s degree.
She married William “Bill” Emrich on August 9, 1959, at the Wesley Methodist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Reneé Suzanne, and Christiana Lee.
Sharon taught English and Physical Education at Winside High School and English at Bellevue Senior High School. She taught at and was named Director of Welcome School, a preschool in Bellevue. Sharon enjoyed sports and was a talented athlete.
Throughout her lifetime she participated in swimming, basketball, modern dance, soccer, field hockey, archery, baseball, volleyball, badminton, ping pong, golf, wallyball, and water skiing.
She and Bill were a handsome couple on the dance floor. Their favorite style was a swing dance known as the “Norfolk Shuffle” best showcased with the Glenn Miller Orchestra performing the song titled “In the Mood”. She also enjoyed playing many card games including bridge. She had good card sense and knew how to bring home a slam bid with honors.
She was a charter member of the Wednesday Women’s Recreation Club in Bellevue. Cooking, baking and entertaining were Sharon’s specialty. She was known and admired by many for her chic sense of style, composure, and generous friendship.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Bill Emrich; daughters Christiana (Doug Schoonover) Emrich of League City, Texas and Reneé (Ed) McClymont of Norfolk; grandson, William McClymont; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, Sadie and Irvin Hooks; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mildred and Cecil Emrich; grandson, Samuel Henry McClymont; and numerous relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
