Suzan Podliska Obituary

Funeral services for Suzan A. Podliska, age 82, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Norfolk. Reverend Brian High will officiate, with burial in Iowa Valley Cemetery in rural Madison, Nebraska.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. 

Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements. 

She passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton, Nebraska. 

Suzan Ann Podliska was born February 4, 1944, in Dubuque, Iowa to Arden Glenn and Isabel Irene (Puetz) Leach. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and earned a Cosmetology Degree from the Cosmetology Academy in Dubuque.

On November 16, 1963, Suzan married Charles W. Maly in Dubuque, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, Dale and Tim. The family moved to Norfolk, Nebraska in 1974. The couple later divorced.

On May 26, 1989, Suzan married Garry D. Podliska in Norfolk. Suzan worked in the business office at Faith Regional Health Services for 32 years. She retired in 2010.

Suzan was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Norfolk. She volunteered at the church and at the Madison Senior Center. She loved fishing and camping with Garry. Suzan enjoyed visiting with others at the Madison Senior Center. Also, she appreciated the opportunities for luncheons with fellow employees from the original Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. 

Suzan relished her time with family and enjoyed the chances to travel, especially to the West Coast and on bus tours to Branson, Missouri.

She is survived by her husband, Garry; sons, Dale (Amy) Maly of Onalaska, WI, and Tim Maly of Norfolk; stepchildren, Tania Podliska of Norfolk and Dana (Patti) Podliska of Norfolk; grandchildren, Eric Wolverton, Brandon Maly, Morgan Rask, and Amber Maly; step-grandchildren, Ross Podliska, Zachary Podliska, and Sara Podliska; greatgrandchildren, Maverick Morse, Evelyn Maly, Parker Rask, Oaklyn Rask, Bristol Rask, Quinn Maly, and Jackson Maly; step-great-grandchildren, Averi-Ann and OakLynn Podliska; and brothers, Robert (Carol) Leach of Dubuque, IA and Michael (Debbie) Leach of Dubuque, IA; and nieces and nephews.   

Suzan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Ohnesorge; brother, David Leach; and daughter-in-law, Betty Maly.
