Vernon Harry Reese

Vernon Harry Reese, age 91 of Stanton, died Saturday April 7, 2018 at Stanton Health Center. He was born March 30, 1927 on a farm in Stanton County near Leigh, Nebraska the son of Alden and Sophia (Jensen) Reese. Vern attended Stanton County Districts #39 and #54 near Stanton and Stanton public school. Vern worked for several farms until 1953 when he started working in construction.

On February 28, 1955 at New England Congregational United Church of Christ Vernon Reese married Janice Mewis, the couple made their home in Stanton. To this union were born two children Timothy and Robin. Vern worked for Stanton County road crew and then served as Superintendent of operations for the city of Stanton for many years.

He was a 63 year member of New England Congregational United Church of Christ in Stanton where he served on many church boards; former member and served on Stanton Volunteer Fire Department; formerly member of Stanton Cemetery Association Board of Directors; 1996 recipient of Joe Bstandig Distinguished Service Award.

Surviving Vern is his wife of 63 years, Janice Reese of Stanton; son Timothy and Mary Reese of Stanton; daughter Robin and Scott Johnson of Wayne; 8 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; 2 Brothers Lawrence "Butch" Reese of Stanton; Lester Reese of Gordon, NE; 1 Sister Darlene Bretschneider of Norfolk; Brother-In-Law Keith and Irene Mewis of Stanton; Sister-In-Law Judene Mewis of Norfolk.

Preceding him in death are his parents, grandson Ian Reese; brothers Alvin, Gordon; Sister Elvira Froehlich.
