Funeral Services for W.G. “Wally” Sonnenschein, age 76, of Norfolk, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue. Past Grand Master Rick Simmons will officiate.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows - Rebekah Lodge (1700 W. Pasewalk Avenue, Northeast side of the Rebekah Manor).
Interment will be in the Stanton Cemetery with military honors by the Army National Guard Honor Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3602, and American Legion Post 88.

He passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Waldo Gene was born May 20, 1947, in Norfolk, Nebraska to Lonnie and Mary (Gurley) Sonnenschein. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1965.
On May 4, 1974, Wally married Joan Wessel at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison.
Wally was a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard for 40 years. Over the years, he was assigned to locations in Norfolk, O’Neill, and Omaha.
Wally was a member of IOOF Lodge #46 for 54 years. He was the Grand Master of Nebraska Odd Fellows from 1977 to 1978. Wally was a member of Stanton County Historical Society. He was a member of the Antique Car Club. Wally was a founding member of the Good Time Bunch. He was a sexton at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Doug Sonnenschein of Vernal, UT; granddaughter, Chalcedony “Kelly” Sonnenschein; in-laws, Carol Armbruster of Stanton, Val Wessel of Madison, Ken Wessel of Madison, Bill Wessel of Norfolk, and Marilyn (Jim) Jensen of Norfolk; special cousin, Bonnie Barbe of Omaha; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Mike and Dorothy Wessel, brother-in-law Dal Armbruster, and daughter-in-law Emilie Sonnenschein.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the S.M.I.L.E. Inc, or to the family for later designation.
