Willard died Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Norfolk Veterans Home.

Willard Andrew Vyhlidal, son of William “Bill” and Minnie (Carstens) Vyhlidal, was born February 4, 1930, in Pierce, Nebraska, where he grew up and attended school. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Army, serving as a medic in Korea.

On April 3, 1956, he married Ruby Bernstrauch. The couple made their home in Norfolk and were blessed with four children, Pam, Brad, Linda, and Carol. For over 30 years, Willard drove an egg truck, nicknamed “Wild Willie,” for Walbaum out of Wakefield. At work, he was commended for driving over a million miles with no accidents.

Willard was famous for his sense of humor. He had a very good memory and would fire off his jokes in nearly any situation. He loved frequenting auctions, where he found his beloved green vibrating rocker-recliner. He enjoyed butter brickle ice cream and popcorn while he watched The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and WWE wrestling, and was always up for a game of Pitch or Rummy.

Willard’s faith was important to him; he made sure his children went to church and Sunday School every week without fail. He was proud of his yard, always making sure his lawn was freshly mowed, and trees trimmed. He especially loved polka music.

Willard is survived by his son, Brad Vyhlidal; daughters, Linda Dietz and Carol Ruge; son-in-law, Tim Jacobsen; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Bill) Liebsack; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; daughter, Pamela Jacobsen; brothers, Jerry and Dennis Vyhlidal; and sister, Mildred Korth.
