William C. "Bill" Wetjen

Funeral services for William C. “Bill” Wetjen, age 84, of Madison, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. Reverend Todd Kollbaum will officiate, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Madison.

Military honors will be conducted by the Army National Guard Honor Guard, American Legion Post 35, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5763. 

Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. 

Resseguie Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.

Bill passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, at Faith Health in Norfolk. 

William C. “Bill” Wetjen was born on February 21, 1942, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to William Frederick and Katherine Mildred (Hansen) Wetjen. He graduated from Madison High School in 1959.

Following high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the infantry. After his military service, he returned home and joined the National Guard while working at Wetjen Implement, where he worked on a lot of Oliver equipment.

On November 27, 1965, Bill married Marilyn Maas at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winside, Nebraska. Together, they built a life and raised their family on the family farm east of Madison. There, Bill devoted himself to farming row crops and raising cattle and hogs. He was deeply passionate about the land he farmed and the livestock he cared for, taking great pride in every aspect of his work. The finest machinery ever to run on his farm was Oliver equipment, which he proudly owned, and operated throughout the years.

Bill was an active member of his community and agricultural organizations. He served as President of the Madison Farmers Coop for many years and was also a member of the Nebraska Hereford Association, Pheasants Forever, and the Tri-State Old Iron Association.

In his later years, Bill developed a special passion for repairing small square balers. He traveled throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and occasionally Minnesota, helping fellow farmers get their balers running again. He was always willing to lend a hand and share his knowledge. Bill also enjoyed fishing, especially the annual family trips to Minnesota with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Bill is survived by his children, Mike (Holly) Wetjen, Julie (Josh) Ohlde, Joan (Roger) Gall, Peggy (Noel) Dickey, and Jeffrey Wetjen; grandchildren, Nathan, Thomas, Emily, Kayla, Landon, Ashlyn, Emma, Levi, Hunter, Luke, Savannah, Gabriel, Kaylyn, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Autumn, Jemma, Felicity, and Kip; and his brother, Robert “Bob” (Bonnie) Wetjen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Marilyn, in 2017.

Bill will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of farming, his willingness to help others, and the pride he took in his family, his land, and the life he built.
