Betty Lou Lorenzen

Funeral services for Betty Lou Lorenzen, 84, of Newman Grove will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Madison.  Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Madison.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Resseguie Funeral Home.

            Betty Lou (Dickinson) Lorenzen, 84, of Newman Grove passed peacefully into eternity with family members by her side on April 17, 2019.  Born January 3, 1935 to Lou and Bethel (Browning) Dickinson.  Betty attended Wayne State College to become a school teacher.  There she met the man she would marry, and the love of her life, John C. Lorenzen.  Tragically, they were together for only 8 short years, with John dying in a motor vehicle accident, leaving her a widow at age 28.  From that point until her passing, she devoted herself to her parents, brothers and especially her sons. 

Despite her short stature, 5'2" on her best days, she was a force to be reckoned with.  And woe to those who wronged her family or friends.  A kind and gentle soul, with the heart of a tiger.  Fiercely independent, she spent the last five years enjoying the company of staff and residents at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home with marginal assistance until a mere 11 days before her passing.  She was at peace and was excited to reunite with her husband and parents.  Truly, the world is a lesser place with her not in it. 

She is survived by her brothers and spouses Fred (Jan) Dickinson, Shelton, WA and Randy (Diana) Dickinson, Sallisaw, OK; sons and spouses Larry (Kim) Lorenzen, Kansas City, MO and Gary (Jean) Lorenzen, Newman Grove NE, and 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 nephews, a niece and a number of great nephews and nieces.  Preceded in death by her husband John and parents Lou and Bethel.
