Mary Ann (Podany) Thies

Funeral services for Mary Ann (Podany) Thies, 81, of Stanton will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Stanton.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with a Wake service at 7, all at the church. Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska, is in charge of arrangements.

            Mary Ann died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Stanton Health Center.

            Mary Ann was born May 17, 1936 to John and Minnie (Jensen) Mandl on the farm in Stanton, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton. She graduated from Stanton High School in 1953. She then graduated from Norfolk’s Beauty College in 1954,

            On May 17, 1956, Mary Ann married Leonard W. Podany at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk, NE. The couple made their home in Stanton. To this union four children were born David, Teresa, Lori, Debbie. Leonard passed away in June of 1981. Mary Ann was then united into marriage with Arland Thies on July 8, 1983. They made their home in Wayne, NE. Arland passed away in April of 1997.

            Mary Ann was a longtime business women and hairdresser in Stanton for 50 years. She then retired in 2004. Mary Ann was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton, St. Peter’s Altar Society, and a member of Stanton VFW Auxiliary.  Her hobbies included playing cards, gardening, planting flowers, going fishing and most of all she loved spending time with her friends and grandchildren. Mary Ann entered the Stanton Heath Care Center in 2014.

Mary Ann (Podany) Thies is survived by her children David (Norma) Podany of Stanton, NE, Teresa (Bruce) Kander of Athens, PA, Lori (Ken) Lewis of Norfolk, NE, Debbie (Jeff) Hansen of Stanton, NE, 11 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, brother Richard (Darlene) Mandl of Tilden, NE, nieces and nephews Jan (Earl) Bayne of Scottsbluff, NE, Cindy Willis of Lakewood, CO, Ron Mandl of Tilden, NE, John (Lynette) Mandl of Stanton, NE, Delbert (Lisa) Mandl of Moville, IA, Dolores (Rick) Warner of Neligh, NE, Ken (Angela) Mandl of Tecumseh, NE, Nick (Kama) Mandl of Norton, KS.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, her parents, one son in-law, four sister in-laws, one brother in- law, and one great- grandson.
