Ralph J. Dopheide

Funeral services for Ralph J. Dopheide, 90, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norfolk.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill  Cemetery, Norfolk.  Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. all at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.

            Ralph died Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Stanton Health Center.

            Ralph was born June 1, 1927, in Omaha, NE, to Joseph and Edyth (Obermire) Dopheide, his mother died at childbirth and he was raised in Butte, NE, by his grandmother and great-grandmother. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Butte. Ralph attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School.  He graduated from Butte High School in 1944. After high school Ralph farmed with his dad near Albion.

On January 1, 1952, Ralph entered the United States Army. He served as a medic tech during the Korean War. After Ralph completed basic training he served at the Presidio Army Hospital in San Francisco, in Orthopedics. Ralph was then deployed to Osaka, Japan and served in the Orthopedic Ward of 279 Army General Hospital, until his honorable discharge on January 9, 1954. He returned to Albion and continued to farm.

On April 18, 1955 Ralph married his soul mate Emily Trudell at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk. Three children were born to this union. They moved to Norfolk and began Dopheide Sanitary Service. Ralph retired in 1994.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emily, son Gregg (Marriane) Dopheide of Omaha, Daughter Madonna (Alan) Platt of Stanton, son John (Karen) Dopheide of Norfolk, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Sharon (Dave) Capan of Pittsburgh, PA, and JoAnn Redden of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and infant twin brothers.
